Xie Bao, a stall in a Flushing food court, was one of our Best New Restaurants of 2024. Now, the crab-roe specialist has a casual sit-down storefront in Hell’s Kitchen. We can confirm that the crab roe noodles are just as creamy and comforting, and the gently formed crab roe meatballs in a lightly sweet, star anise-laced sauce remain delicious. Excitingly though, Xie Bao’s Manhattan menu is much more extensive, with tender sweet and sour ribs, pan-fried yellow croaker with shatteringly crispy skin, and lunch specials, like an eel rice bowl, that start at $14. We’re looking forward to trying their seafood boils and the glossy tanghulu fruit skewers in the window.
