When your sad desk lunch kills your will to work, Soulbox in the West End is your $15 lifeline to a huge lunch portion, just order wisely. A Soul-boxable (their take on a boxed lunch) includes a meat option—from flavorful chicken or shrimp to pork chops or ribs—along with one side, and a piece of soft cornbread. If you go for the whole fried chicken wings, dousing it in very wet lemon pepper sauce will run you an extra $2 (yes, just for the sauce). With the exception of the savory vegan black-eyed peas and collards made with turkey meat, a lot of the sides here are a little sugary, especially the wincingly sweet candied yams. The peach cobbler is moist and comes in a super cute personal pan container, although it too, is doused with sugar crystals on the crust.
